Mansa Musa Multimedia Project
19-track concept album with supporting historical research on the richest person in history.
The Mansa Musa project combines historical research with AI-generated music to tell the story of Mansa Musa - the 14th century Malian emperor who was the richest person in recorded history.
The Album
The album spans 19 tracks covering Musa's rise, his legendary pilgrimage to Mecca, and his lasting impact on education and architecture. Each track was crafted using AI music generation (Suno), with detailed creative direction for tone, instrumentation, and emotional arc.
Selected Tracks
- City of Gold - the grandeur of the Mali Empire at its height
- The Griot's Tale - the oral tradition that preserved West African history
- Timbuktu Rising - the building of one of the world's greatest centers of learning
- Knowledge is Wealth - the connection between education and lasting economic power
- The Road to Mecca - the famous 1324 pilgrimage that crashed gold prices across North Africa
- Beyond the Sands - legacy, memory, and what endures after the gold is gone
The Research
The musical project is backed by historical research into the Mali Empire, West African trade networks, and the economic impact of Musa's reign. The research examines what made Mali's wealth systemic rather than personal - the trade infrastructure, the educational institutions, and the cultural frameworks that sustained prosperity across generations.
Why This Project
Mansa Musa's story is one of the most important and least told narratives in economic history. This project makes it accessible through music while preserving the depth of the historical record. It's part of a larger body of work connected to The Abundance Thesis and research on wealth building in the African American community.
